When Should Someone Seek Counselling

Professional counselling is an option to help with stress caused by relationship issues, anxiety, depressive symptoms, and confusion or mixed emotions that are affecting you and others around you in a negative way. Maybe you find yourself unable to manage aspects of your life, or you find that the constant stressors in your day-to-day have brought you to a breaking point and you fear you aren’t managing. Maybe a loved one has suggested looking for help.

In a partnership, problems with relationships are always multi-faceted, stemming from many sources which can include issues around self-esteem, family patterns, career problems and parenting methods.   Seeking counselling help can be for an individual or a couple.

Accepting Help

It can be difficult for us to realize that extra guidance and direction can bring about important change in our lives. Counselling is often suggested by a friend, family member or a professional in health care. Counselling can also be a preventive measure for those in relationships who seek to make changes but require an external frame of reference to facilitate dialogue. Ultimately, choosing to accept help is your first step towards healing and growth as an individual or within a relationship.

What to Expect

My goal as a counsellor is to facilitate honest dialogue; whether that be with yourself, or with you and your partner.   When you contact me by email or phone, I will get back to you within 48 hours.    Following a brief intake consultation,  we can move on to scheduling a 50 minute in person session.  The therapeutic process of dialogue, introspection and discovery takes time, but understanding and healing are the ultimate gains. Greater self-awareness and personal growth can lead to making life changes and finding lasting satisfaction in the long run.
